I won't bore you with the details but we did attribute it eventually to a Windows problem (not virus protection or firewall). Are you sure that of the source of your installed software -- did you download anything that might have come from China? How doe I get it off the "Tiny Footprint Mode"? Hmm. It SHOULD tell you it sees a new mouse and either ask for the CORRECT drivers or install some generic mouse drivers to make it work.
